2008
was a good year for Baghdad Salukis and their owners I am
wishing everyone an even better 2009!
Jordan
retired at the age of 10 at the end of 2007 with a record
breaking 49 Best In Shows/Specialty Shows, 27 Runner Up
Best In Shows/Specialty Shows and
over 100 Groups. His legacy will live on in his kids, grand
kids and great grand kids. He now spends his days lounging
on my sofa, playing with his numerous toys and being admired
by all who come to visit. He is a true gentleman and his
star will shine bright for a long time to come.
Two
Grand Champions finished this year: Gr. Ch. Baghdad
Sunsation 'Twix' (G
& P Russell) (a
Jordan son) and Gr. Ch. Baghdad Quasar 'Riley' (Nicole
Snerling).
6 of the 9 pups from Twix X Julia finished their
Championship titles this year several with Group wins:
Japanese Ch. Baghdad Golden Sun (Masako
Ito)
finishing #2 Saluki in Japan for 2008, American Ch. Baghdad
Shena at Shasei 'Shena' (Sharon
Furlong)
who also attained her Junior Courser title, Aust. Ch. Baghdad Now That's Cool 'Carlito' (Dean
Applebee and
me),
Aust. Ch. Baghdad The Power O Me 'Piper' (Nicole
Snerling and me),
Aust. Ch. Baghdad At The Oasis 'Julie' (shown
beautifully by Millissa Voglsam)
and Aust. Ch. Baghdad Charlottes Web 'Charlotte' (shown
beautifully by Yvonne Griffin) (both
owned by me).
Congrats to their owners and handlers for a job well done.
The
litter of 8 out of Jordan X Julia who are just over a year
now have done quite well. Baghdad Northern Lights 'Jerry' (Jan
Olov-Blom)
has made quite a stir in Sweden doing some very nice winning
for his age. Well on the way to their championships are
Baghdad Angel Eyes and Baghdad Phoenix Rising 'Angel and
Phoenix' (Lisa Ferraris,
Lynda Craw and me)
and Baghdad Bronzed Aussie 'Bundy' (Lynda
Dunn)
who when he finishes his Aust. championship will fly off to
join Lynda in Ireland. Although Baghdad Prestige
Affair 'Magic' (Chantall
Praratt)
hasn't been shown very much his keen novice handler showed
him to go Reserve Challenge Dog at the Victorian Saluki
Specialty in November. Baghdad Ebony Eyes 'Satine' (Kevin
Cheng)
another novice handler is doing quite well with this lovely
bitch. Baghdad Bamhjoe Diva and Baghdad Karim 'Diva and
Karim' have just arrived in the UK to their new owners Steve
and Anne Ham. Karim is co-owned with the Ham's, me and
Margaret Ross-Elliot and will be shown with his half brother
BIS/BISS UK Ch. Baghdad Foreign Affair 'JJ' who will retire
at Crufts next year. JJ is from Jordan's first litter,
which he sired at just under a year of age, and Karim is
from Jordan's last litter which he sired at 10.
We had
a very special guest at Baghdad for 10 months of this year,
Ch. Hadiyyah Samir of Gorewater 'Kaspar'.(Imp. UK). Kaspar,
a Jordan great grandson, has made quite an impact on the
'Baghdad Look' and filled our lives with joy and love. He
improved some structural weaknesses, as well as, we now have
the very exciting and controversial brindles. You either
love them or hate them! I love them for the lovely Salukis
they are as do the new brindle owners. I was sad to see
Kaspar leave but I know Margaret was pleased to have him
back home.
Kaspar's first contribution came in the form of the litter
to BIS Queen Jap.Aust.Ch. Baghdad Seductress 'Tess' (leased
to me by Kenichi Sugiyama).
There were two outstanding pups out of the litter of six.
One is Baghdad Tyghar Bey 'Tyghar' (owned
by
Margot Keast and me).
Tyghar will make his show debut at the end of February 2009
with his new co-owner. His brother Baghdad Spirit of the Desert 'Kaliq' (Yvonne
Griffin and me)
is absolutely stunning and is already well on the way to his
championship.
Kaspar's second litter out of Julia produced 9 pups with
quite some diversity and some really lovely pups. The two
brindle bitches that will be hitting the show ring soon here
in Australia are the fawn brindle Baghdad Arabian Princess 'Samirah'
(Katrina Morton
and me)
and the black/cream brindle Baghdad Song of Arabia
'Melody' (Kevin
Cheng and me).
Then there is a black and tan dog Baghdad Whose The Man
'Cougar' (L
Craw / P Bockman-Chato / L Feraris).
Two pups went to the US, the very handsome tri coloured
dog Baghdad Thief Of Hearts 'Azim' is now with Hannah Garner
and her family in Oklahoma. This is Hannah's first Saluki
and they have already bonded and it has been related to me
that he is the 'best Christmas present ever'. The lovely
fawn brindle bitch Baghdad Be Still My Heart 'Bee' is now
residing in Arizona with Lyndell Ackerman. The lovely gold
dog, Baghdad Golden Reign 'Sunny' is going to Queensland
next month (Stacey
Shield and me).
The three pets went to lovely homes although I think I was
too quick to judge one as a pet, Chloe, a black and tan
brindle is a really lovely bitch.
Kaspar's third and last litter before going back to Scotland
was out of Ch. Baghdad Tempestuous Tart. The handsome fawn
brindle Baghdad A Star In Stripes 'Kasper' (Pam
and Barry
Vogt and me) will
be making his show debut very soon as will his lovely
grizzle sister Baghdad Totally Bewitching 'Karma' (Yvonne
Griffin and me).
Baghdad An Arabian Night 'Aladin' (Bec
Klok and me),
a striking tri colour dog will be going to his new co-owner
tomorrow and hit the show ring as soon as he is three
months. Baghdad Ibn Ben Caliph 'Caliph' will be winging his
way to New Caledonia in a few weeks. Baghdad Designer
Stripes, the stunning red brindle boy will stay at Baghdad
and share the sofa with Jordan :-).
It
will be very interesting to see what impact the brindle and
incomplete agouti mantle pups from these litters have in
years to come. |
